> i've spent hundreds and hundreds of hours farming to get event weapons, armors that were always cooler than the last, etc. so a few years ago, when i came back to the game and realized that the entire weapon system had been completely changed, i immediately thought there was a problem. after looking into the situation, i learned that some crypto bros had bought the IP and were pushing microtransactions as hard as they could. my favorite multiplayer "rpg" had basically been turned into a cash grab by people who knew nothing about video games and didn't give a shit about the community. then, even later, i suddenly couldn't connect to the servers anymore, and i learned the terrible news: the player count had dropped so much that the cryptobros had just killed the game. literally. the game was simply unplayable. i then looked for a way, provided by the people who owned dauntless, to play offline or at least host my own servers, but obviously, for people who don't give a shit about the community, i couldn't find anything. even after looking for replacements, which i saw everywhere on reddit, nothing replaces the simplicity of the weapons and elements. nothing replaces the feeling of arriving on an island, seeing a bunch of behemoths, and choosing which one to fight depending on what you want to farm. nothing replaces the feeling of maxing out a weapon so you can rebirth it, etc. no multiplayer game even comes close to dauntless in what it was trying to do. and even though its main inspiration was obviously the monster hunter series, i still don't feel satisfied with what those games offer compared to dauntless. sure, they're probably better games. the graphics are better, and the weapons and monsters are more complex, but that's not what i was looking for in dauntless. with the hope that one day the game that has been haunting me since its death will be brought back to life by a studio that buys the IP, or by some project that manages to recreate something similar, i say this with a heavy heart: good luck to all my fellow behemoth slayers.
